Small nonprofit has a big heart for Japan quake survivors

A small Christian Science group that runs a tiny nursing home in Encinitas started a relief fund earlier this year to help survivors of Japan’s devastating earthquake and has now raised more than $138,000, say the somewhat surprised organizers of the effort.

“It’s rather overwhelming,” said Pam Ludwig, executive director of the nonprofit organization called Sunland Home Foundation “When we first decided to go forward with this we thought ‘if we could just raise $2,500 wouldn’t that be great.’ ”  Read story»
