Riding out a rainstorm at Kirkwood’s (Missouri) Christian Science Reading Room

There’s a little storefront on Jefferson, just west of Kirkwood that adds to the rich mixture. It’s the kind of place you see throughout most American cities. And, on a busy day, somewhere around dozen people might avail themselves of the quiet space offered inside.

The reference? None other than Kirkwood’s Christian Science Reading Room (153 West Jefferson, 314-821-5717). For four decades, I’d never walked into one of these venues and wasn’t quite sure what I’d find inside.
