Youth hold prayer rallies to prevent crime in Detroit

Detroit— Violence in Detroit has been all too real for Darius Tucker, 19. He says he watched as his 30-year-old cousin was fatally shot last Saturday after an alleged dispute over a woman. And he’s been near death himself.

On Saturday, Tucker decided to share a poem he wrote on violence during a youth prayer rally at Second Ebenezer Church on Dequindre near I-75. The youth rally was one of several at churches throughout the city to coincide with the launch of Detroit Night Walks, an initiative to build community trust and prevent crime.

“I’m glad there were a lot of us here,” Tucker said of Saturday’s rally. Read story»
