Strength, prayer carry church through

On Wednesday mornings, you will find members of the congregation of the Burt Avenue Wesleyan Church gathering in the church’s fellowship hall.

These are special mornings set aside to study the Bible, talk of troubles and triumphs, and pray together. They also serve as a refreshing reprieve from busy schedules….

The church’s large stained-glass window with the Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane is an example of the church’s focus on prayer and the “whole word of God.”

“We have always been a prayer-focused church,” said the Rev. Rodney Uhlig, who has been the pastor for the past 10 years.

He said the church has contributed to the community through the power of prayer. Prayer vigils and community prayer services reach out to spread the word of God.

“Prayer is one of the greatest contributions we make to the community,” Uhlig said, adding that member of the church was instrumental in organizing 28 area churches to pray for area law enforcement.

“It’s our duty to pray for those who are serving and protecting the community,” he said….
